The Heights of Adventure!

msdaltitude.jpg

Over the years the worlds mountains have become synonymous with recreation, a place to escape civilization and commune with nature. Altitude diving is your key to diving opportunities inland, away from the ocean.

Deep Diver Specialty $225 + Boat charter fee: $95 (When applicable)

Pressing the limit.MSD_03_Deep_w.jpg

Mention "deep diving" amid a group of divers and watch the reactions. Novice divers want to know what it's like. More experienced divers, who have been a bit deeper chat with excitement. Deep Diving Specialty Divers, those qualified to venture to 130 feet, the recommended farthest edge of recreational diving, also show enthusiasm, but tempered with respect for the more serious nature of deep diving. There's something a bit attractive, exciting and mysterious about "going deep." Through the Deep Diving Specialty Course you will be introduced to the techniques of deep diving and be qualified to dive to depths as deep as 130 feet.

Dive requirement: 4 Dives over 2 day. Day 1 is beach diving, day 2 is boat diving OR beach diving, depending on the class.

Equipment requirement: Diver are required to have their back-up light and dive computer or eRDPml. A pony bottle is recommended.

Prerequisite: Advanced Open Water Diver

Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty $195 + $28 textbook

Bring the Adventure Home

Who doesn't want to bring back photographic memories of their underwater adventures! Not long ago, taking pictures underwater was a difficult endeavor reserved for those with patience and a mountain of cash. Today, camera systems are far more affordable and easy to use. Whether exploring reefs, or wrecks, diving the ice or at altitude, or diving that local site you've done hundreds of times, underwater photography adds a new element of interest to every dive.

This cluwphoto.jpgass will get you started along the path to fantastic underwater photos. Day 1 will be classroom practice of basic camera maintenance and care, along with basic shooting techniques for local area photography. Classroom time is followed by a dive, then back to the classroom to review and comment on how to improve the photos taken. Day 2 more advanced camera techniques will be introduced, along with some picture editing skills. Then a dive followed by more review of your pictures. This is a really great class to help you make the most of your underwater time with a camera.

If you choose to purchase a camera when you sign up for this class, or during the weekend, you would get 20% off of the price marked in store. That includes all of the Intova cameras, and the newly released and highly reviewed Sealife DC800, as well as the Reefmaster Mini.

Camera Rental (If you don't have your own camera): $30 a day
Tuition: $195
Textbook: $28

Dive requirement: 2 days of diving and classroom time

Equipment requirement: None.

Prerequisite: Open Water Diver

Drift Diver Specialty $175 - Charter fee (when applicable) $95

If You Can't Beat the Current, Join It!drift.jpg

Many of the worlds best diving is in high current areas. Rather than fight the current, drift with it. In some sites, the current carries you far faster than you could swim, sailing you along effortlessly. Drifting with the current and not having to worry about returning to the boat, lets you relax and concentrate on the dive. This is as close as it gets to effortless diving.

Dive requirement: 2 Dives in 1 day. We often do 3 dives over 2 days - day 2 off of the boat.

Equipment requirement: Divers are required to have their own safety stop anchor/safety sausage. A surface audible signaling device is highly recommended.

Prerequisite: Open Water Diver - Some classes will require Advanced due to planned dive sites.

Dry Suit Diver Specialty $150

Make the Adventure Drydrysuitspecialty.jpg

Modern dry suits have opened the door to diving in even the coolest water. A dry suit lets you venture into sites far from the tropical dive resorts to which many people limit their diving. While dry suits offer warmth, they do require some special techniques. Fortunately, it's not much of a drawback because mastering dry suit skills is easy. With the cost of dry suits free falling many divers are choosing to "go dry."

Special: Sign up for this class with the Advanced Open Water class and get free rental during both classes and $50 off the tuition.

Dive requirement: 2 Dives in 1 day

Equipment requirement: None.

Prerequisite: Open Water Diver

Emergency Oxygen Provider Course  $75 Tuition + $30 Student kit

Administering Oxygen is one of the most important aspects of first aid for o2.jpgdecompression sickness, lung overexpansion injuries, and also for many non diving issues such as strokes. However, statistics say that less than 50% of injured divers actually are administered Oxygen, and those that do get Oxygen don't get near 100% concentrations due to improper administration. This class teaches you how to correctly administer 100% Oxygen to an injured diver so that those dismal statistics will start to improve. PADI introduced this class in 2008, and they produced fantastic training materials for it including the quick refresher card. We will cover the specific skills of:

  • Assembly, safe use, and care of Oxygen systems.
  • How to administer Oxygen using demand valve and mask, constant-flow/non-rebreather masks, and pocket mask with an Oxygen inlet
  • Review the signs and symptons of dive injuries, as well as basic emergency management.
  • A great class to take heading into your Rescue class, or in conjunction with your First Aid/CPR class.

Dive requirement: None, home study plus an evening of skills practice

Prerequisite: Fog a mirror

Enriched Air/Nitrox Diver Specialty $95 - Study Kit: $70

Extend the Adventurenitrox.jpg

One of the most important innovations ever in recreational diving. Nitrox is air that has been enriched to a maximum of 40% oxygen. By cutting back on the nitrogen content of the air, nitrox will give you longer bottom times as well as a decreased risk of decompression sickness and nitrogen narcosis.

Dive requirement: No Dive Requirement

Equipment requirement: None.

Prerequisite: Open Water Diver. Minimum age 15.

Underwater Navigation Specialty $175

Know where you are. Always!msdnav.jpg

Under water Navigation is, without a doubt, the most important, and often, the most overlooked aspect of diving. Remember your very first Open water dive? You were excited about your first diving experience and probably paid little attention to where you were going during the dive. You were perhaps astonished to surface and see that your instructor knew exactly where you were all the time. Navigation can be difficult but, with a little practice and experience, you too will soon be navigating like a pro.

Dive requirement: 3 Dives over 2 days. Advanced Certified Divers have already completed the first dive as part of the Navigation Specialty Course. In the case of Advanced Certified divers the remaining two dives, and Navigation Specialty Certification, can be completed in one day.

Wreck Diver Specialty $225

Explore the Past

There's nothing like the thrill of diving a wreck for the first time. Descending, you gaze downward, trying to catch a glimpse of it. At first, you see nothing. Then, as it slowly comes into view you can't help but reflect on this once vibrant vessel resting peacefully on the bottom, slowly being claimed by the sea and her creatures. Wreck diving is an adventure in exploring man's loss and nature's gain.

Dive requirement: 4 Dives over 2 days
